The goal of Prevention Services is to positively influence and empower others with the tools, skills, and self-worth to reach their fullest potential. Prevention services involve people, families, communities, and systems working together to promote their strengths and potentials. Prevention is aimed at substantially reducing the incidence of mental illness, intellectual disability and other developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Emphasis is on enhancement of protective factors and reduction of risk factors. 

 The following six activities comprise prevention services:
  • Information Dissemination
  • Prevention Education
  • Alternatives
  • Problem Identification and Referral
  • Community-based Process
  • Environmental prevention activities
Collaboration with other youth serving community agencies is a key component of these services to positively impact youth in making healthy life decisions in the areas of:  
    • resisting life and peer pressures
    • relationships/friendships
    • coping skills/resiliency
    • assertiveness
    • dangers of substance abuse
    • self-control
    • sexual activity
    • bullying
    • building character.
Staff is available to provide education, programs, and interactive displays on a variety of topics such as parenting, substance abuse, anger management, child development, effective discipline. Other topics of interest to youth, parents, schools, churches, and other community organizations are available upon request.
