School Intervention Program (SCIP)
What Is the School Intervention Program?
The School Intervention Program (SCIP) was designed to help at-risk children and teens who exhibit multiple behavioral, emotional and/or social problems. Individuals under the age of 21 are eligible.
SCIP offers support when the individual’s issues interfere with:
- School attendance
- Academic performance
- Social interactions with peers or authority figures within the school setting
Help for Mental or Behavioral Health Is Available in All Suffolk Public Schools
SCIP is different from some other programs for youth, in that it’s available directly through your child’s school. This gives students and parents direct access to helpful services and eliminates common barriers to care, like scheduling and transportation. SCIP is currently available in all Suffolk public schools.
What Services Does SCIP Provide?
Case Management
Case management provides long-term rehabilitation services, designed to link individuals with care options, as well as monitor and advocate for them throughout the care system
Outpatient Counseling
Outpatient counseling through SCIP is done in the school. This way, parents don’t have to disrupt their schedules or drive to appointments
Referrals To Other Community-Based Partnerships
We can connect students that might have behavioral or mental health challenges with private providers in the community that offer therapeutic day treatment.
Crisis support
Classroom interventions
Descalations
Therapeutic groups
Even if you’re uninsured or underinsured, you can still access therapeutic group services.
