Compassionate care for your child in crisis

When you are looking for mental health help for your child or teen, you want the best care available, but it is more than that. You want to be sure that your child will not be scared, overwhelmed, or invalidated. You want to know that they will be cared for the way you would care for them.

Seeing your child in pain is one of the most difficult things a parent can experience, especially when you feel like there is nothing you can do. If your child or teen is experiencing a mental health crisis, our team of highly trained, compassionate professionals is here to support your whole family.

What the Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit is

The Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CCSU) is a safe environment where children and teens up to age 17 can stabilize during a mental health crisis. Located on our soothing BRIDGES campus in Windsor, VA, this regional 8-bed facility offers short-term residential crisis services. This short-term program helps to avoid a hospitalization and gets your child better and back home to you as soon as possible.

The program provides up to 15 days of crisis services to youth and their families. Our multidisciplinary approach includes psychiatric care, assessment, and stabilization. During their stay, your child will have access to a variety of supportive activities, including:

  • Mental health counseling and group therapy
  • Therapeutic outings designed to build confidence
  • Interactions with therapy dogs for comfort and emotional regulation
  • Family sessions to ensure you are equipped to support them at home

Who BRIDGES serves

Our stabilization services are tailored for children and teenagers (ages 3 to 17) who are experiencing a community crisis or are stepping down from a hospital or detention center.

This program is specifically designed to treat:

  • Mood disorders
  • Behavioral disorders
  • Mental health issues related to substance use

You’re not alone.

Recovery support is here.If you are trying to rebuild stability after a child’s mental health crisis, your family does not have to do it by yourselves. A short-term stay at BRIDGES can be a practical next step toward stronger routines, healthier coping, and more connection.

WTCSB is here to help you find the right level of support and move forward one step at a time.
