Support when you are rebuilding after mental illness

Living with a mental health condition can affect routines, relationships, motivation, and confidence. Psycho-Social Rehabilitation (PSR) is designed to support people who are recovering from the impact of mental illness by helping them strengthen daily living skills, build supportive connections, and take practical steps toward stability and independence.

What PSR is

PSR is a structured, recovery-focused service. It offers a safe and supportive environment where participants work with staff to identify goals and build a plan for personal recovery, then take part in activities that support progress in everyday life.

PSR often includes recovery-oriented activities and a shared, person-centered plan. In Psychosocial Rehabilitation, you work with staff to identify your goals and build a practical plan for recovery, then take part in structured activities designed to support progress in daily life.

PSR can also include wellness-focused activities, including body movement, as part of building healthier routines and improving overall functioning. Many PSR programs include health and wellness skill-building that may address topics like physical activity, nutrition, and other everyday habits that support recovery.

Who PSR serves

PSR is typically for adults living with serious mental illness or significant life disruption related to mental illness who want added support building structure, coping strategies, and community connection.

PSR is not emergency care. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, WTCSB’s Crisis Receiving Center (CRC) offers 24/7 walk-in support.

You’re not alone. Recovery support is here.

If you are trying to rebuild stability after mental illness, you do not have to do it by yourself. PSR can be a practical next step toward stronger routines, healthier coping, and more connection. WTCSB is here to help you find the right level of support and move forward one step at a time.

How to Access Psycho-Social Rehabilitation?

To get started, begin with The Haven. The Haven page includes a “Start the intake process” link, and staff can help determine whether PSR is the right fit, what eligibility requirements apply, and what the next step should be.

How to Pay for My Visit

WTCSB accepts public insurance, private insurance, and self-pay. If you have insurance, we will use your coverage when eligible and let you know if any copays or costs apply. WTCSB’s published payment options include Virginia Medicaid (including CCC Plus plans), Medicare, and many commercial insurance plans.

If you do not have insurance, or if you are underinsured, WTCSB also offers income-based financial assistance through an Ability to Pay (ATP) system (often called a sliding scale). Fees are based on what you can afford, and some services may have different fee rules than others.

WTCSB’s published self-pay methods include cash, check, and major credit cards

Questions about cost? Call (757) 758-5106 and ask about payment options for the service you need and whether you qualify for Ability to Pay.
