Support when you need an urgent psychiatric evaluation

When mental health symptoms escalate, you may need help right away, not weeks from now. As a specialized service offered within WTCSB’s Crisis Receiving Center (CRC), we provide walk-in mental health assessments and urgent psychiatric evaluations to help determine the safest next step for your care.

This service allows you to come in without an appointment for a rapid, compassionate evaluation and immediate stabilization.

What walk-in emergency psychiatric services are

Walk-in emergency psychiatric services focus on rapid assessment, stabilization, and treatment planning when someone is experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.

Through this specific service at the CRC, you will receive an evaluation directly from a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) or other qualified psychiatric provider. They will evaluate your symptoms and determine the safest and most effective course of care.

When utilizing this service at the CRC, you receive:

Immediate Walk-In Support: Access to urgent psychiatric evaluations without needing a prior appointment.

  • Professional Assessments: A clinical evaluation by a Psych NP to understand your specific psychiatric needs and medication requirements.
  • Short-Term Crisis Care: Access to the CRC’s safe, supportive setting where you can stay for up to 23 hours to stabilize.
  • Care Coordination: Direct connection and treatment planning for ongoing services, including therapy, medication management, and community resources.

Who walk-in emergency psychiatric services serve

These emergency psychiatric services are available for individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis who require rapid, professional assessment. This service is essential when you:

  • Are overwhelmed by escalating mental health symptoms and need immediate clinical guidance.
  • Are unsure of what level of care is required to stay safe.
  • Need an urgent evaluation from a psychiatric professional to establish a treatment plan and avoid unnecessary hospitalization.

You’re not alone. Recovery support is here.

If you are trying to rebuild stability during or after a mental health crisis, you do not have to do it by yourself. Getting an emergency psychiatric evaluation can be a practical next step toward stronger routines, healthier coping, and more connection. WTCSB is here to help you find the right level of support and move forward one step at a time.

(If you or someone you love is experiencing a crisis but cannot walk in, please contact our crisis line 24/7 at (757) 925-2484 or call 988).
