February is International Boost Self-Esteem Month and we want to talk about the importance of healthy self-esteem and why it matters for a happy life.

What is Self-esteem?

Self-esteem is how we think about and value ourselves. It’s based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves, which can be difficult to change, and has a direct link to our mental health and our quality of life.

Why Self-esteem Matters When it Comes to Our Mental Health

Low self-esteem is linked to anxiety and depression. When we have low self-esteem, we view ourselves, and the lives we lead, in a more negative light. That’s why healthy self-esteem is so important.

Increasing your self-esteem isn’t always easy, but it can be done, and it’s worth it.

So, what’s the key to boosting your self-esteem?

In the following video, Jenna Haton, a Peer Recovery Specialist at WTCSB, talks about the link between your self-esteem and your mental health, and how to improve both.

To learn more about self-esteem and how to boost it, watch the video.
