Support when you need it

Day Support is a structured, non-residential program for adults who want more connection, routine, and support building independence. If you have an intellectual disability and want a place to learn skills, participate in meaningful activities, and spend time with others in a supportive setting, Day Support can help you get out of the house and keep moving forward. WTCSB’s Day Support Services Program is designed to help adults maximize independence through planned activities and training.

What Day Support is

At WTCSB, Day Support includes individual and small-group instruction and activities that promote real-life skills and community participation. Depending on your needs and goals, Day Support may include opportunities for:

  • Peer interaction and social connection
  • Community integration, using the community as a place to learn and practice skills
  • Adaptive daily living skills through integrated day activities (examples can include routines, communication, budgeting basics, nutrition, and other independence skills)
  • Health and safety supports to help each person participate safely
  • Vocational and independence-focused skill building, based on the person’s goals and support plan (for example, exploring interests, volunteering, or preparing for next steps)

Who Day Support serves

Day Support is for adults with intellectual disabilities who benefit from structured daytime support and skill-building. For many people in Virginia, these services may be connected to community-based waiver supports (such as the DD Waivers), depending on eligibility and funding. WTCSB can help you understand what you may qualify for and what the next step should be.

You’re Not Alone. Support Can Start Today.

If you or someone you care about is living with an intellectual disability or mental health challenge and could benefit from more structure, connection, and skill-building during the day, you do not have to figure it out alone. WTCSB can help you explore Day Support options and the next steps for getting connected, because building independence works best when you have steady support around you.

How to Access Day Support

The best first step is to call WTCSB and ask about Day Support Services. We will help you understand eligibility, what documentation may be needed, and the next step for enrollment (which may include an intake, referral, or coordination through case management).

When you call, it helps to share:

  • Whether you have an intellectual disability diagnosis
  • Whether you currently receive any services (or have a case manager)
  • Whether you have Medicaid and any waiver information (if applicable)

How to Pay for My Visit

WTCSB accepts public insurance, private insurance, and self-pay. If you have insurance, we will use your coverage when eligible and let you know if any copays or costs apply. WTCSB’s published payment options include Virginia Medicaid (including CCC Plus plans), Medicare, and many commercial insurance plans.

If you do not have insurance, or if you are underinsured, WTCSB also offers income-based financial assistance through an Ability to Pay (ATP) system (often called a sliding scale). Fees are based on what you can afford, and some services may have different fee rules than others.

WTCSB’s published self-pay methods include cash, check, and major credit cards

Questions about cost? Call (757) 758-5106 and ask about payment options for the service you need and whether you qualify for Ability to Pay.
