In a significant stride toward enhancing mental health services, the Western Tidewater Community Services Board (WTCSB) has inaugurated the region’s first 24/7 Urgent Care for Mental Health.
Situated at 5268 Godwin Boulevard (inside the Haven) in Suffolk, Virginia, this Crisis Receiving Center (CRC) is a beacon of hope, offering immediate, compassionate support to individuals facing mental health or substance use crises.
A Sanctuary for Immediate Mental Health Support
The newly established CRC functions akin to an urgent care clinic but is specifically tailored for mental health needs. It provides a serene and supportive environment for individuals in crisis, ensuring rapid assessment, stabilization, and seamless connections to ongoing care. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, which can often be overwhelming, the CRC is designed to focus entirely on mental health and substance use support in a setting conducive to healing.
Services Offered
The CRC is equipped to assist anyone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, whether it’s feelings of being overwhelmed, struggling with suicidal thoughts, or needing a safe space to regain stability. The services provided include:
- Crisis Stabilization: Immediate intervention to help individuals regain emotional balance.
- 24/7 Walk-In Support: No appointment needed—help is available any time, day or night.
- Mental Health Assessments: Professional evaluations to determine the best course of care.
- Short-Term Crisis Care: Individuals can stay up to 23 hours in a safe, supportive setting.
- Peer Support Specialists: People with lived experience offering guidance and encouragement.
- Connection to Ongoing Services: Assistance in finding therapy, medication management, and community resources.
- Substance Use Support: Immediate help for those experiencing withdrawal or seeking recovery options.
These services are designed to provide immediate relief and set individuals on a path toward long-term recovery and stability.
Accessing Care at the CRC
Accessing the CRC is straightforward and designed to eliminate barriers to care:
The CRC is open to adults (age 18 or older) experiencing a crisis, including mental health, behavioral health, substance abuse, family-related crises, or any crisis event. To receive care, individuals must reside within the Region Five Area, which encompasses Chesapeake, Williamsburg, Eastern Shore, Hampton-Newport News, Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, and Western Tidewater.
Guests are welcome to stay for up to 23 hours, during which the dedicated team works closely with them to develop a personalized plan tailored to their specific needs. To ensure accessibility, the CRC offers transportation to and from the facility, making help always within reach.
